Your Computer memory needs

The amount of memory you need is totally dependent on how much and for what you use your computer. The more operations your computer uses, the more RAM you need. If you use digital video and audio equipment then you need more RAM than someone who is just using their computer for word processing. Most operations require a minimum of 64MB but it is generally best to have at least 128MB of memory.

If you only use your computer minimally then you can suffice on 64MB of memory. This applies to those who confine their computer use to word processing, surfing the web, and using e-mail. For a basic user who performs all those activities plus working with other applications could get by with 128MB but would be better off with 256MB of memory.

Most professionals need at least 256MB on their computer but would be much happier with 512MB. With 256MB, you can work with graphics and run multiple business applications. If you are in the business world, you don't want to bother with a slow computer so more memory is your best bet.

More advanced professionals need more memory, at least 512MB. With this amount, you can work with digital images, video, CAD software, and high-end graphics. If you are a graphics designer, use modeling software, and digital video and images, you might want to upgrade to 1GB of memory or more.

Memory prices are so low right now that you can afford to do this cheaply. The benefits reaped far outweigh the cost so more memory is always better. It saves you priceless time by ensuring that your computer runs quickly and smoothly.
